Sugar Cookies

Sugar Cookies

1 cup butter, room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 cup powdered sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
1 cup oil
1 tsp. vanilla extract
5 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tarter

1. Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray the cookie sheets lightly or line them with parchment.

2. Cream the butter and sugars.
Add the eggs, salt, oil and vanilla. Mix completely.

3. Mix in the flour, baking soda and cream of tarter. Blend well.

4. Make balls of dough and set them on the cookie sheets at least 1 inch apart. Now, get a shallow bowl with white sugar and a glass or a cookie stamp.

5. Dip the bottom of the glass against the cookie dough to get it oily. Now, dip it in the sugar and then press the cookie balls to about 2 1/2 inches in diameter.
Of course, they could be larger, depending on the size of your dough balls.
Dip the bottom of your glass each time into the sugar. It makes the cookies really nice. You can always use some colored sugar for the holidays.

6. Bake them for 8 to 10 minutes. You don't want them brown.
Let sit on the cookie sheet for about 5 minutes. Transfer to a rack.

Makes about 6 dozen
