Old Peach Cobbler Recipe
1 stick butter
1 cup milk
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 tsp. baking powder
dash of salt
2 (15 oz) cans sliced peaches, drained
1. Heat the oven to 350 degrees.
2. Melt the butter in the oven in a 9 x 13 pan.
3. Meanwhile, mix the flour, baking powder, salt & sugar. Stir in the milk. It should look like pancake batter.
4. Remove the pan from the oven.
Pour the batter on top of the butter. Don't stir!
Now, spoon the peaches on top of the batter. Don't stir!
The batter rises up over the peaches.
5. Bake for about 1 hour.
You can use whatever fruit you choose. I've also made it using pie filling - just don't drain it. 😁
Just as a note. This recipe was given to me by my next door neighbor back in 1971 in Gulfport, Mississippi. They were an elderly couple - very nice people. She told it to me over the back fence one morning when we were both hanging out our laundry.
I had to go inside right away and write it down before I forgot it. This is the cobbler recipe I've always used.
This lady called it a "pie" and said it was the only pie her husband would eat.
