My Mother's Bread Pudding

6 cups broken bread pieces (stale)
3 Tbsp. butter, divided
4 eggs
2 cups milk
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 Tbsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Use 1 Tbsp. butter to grease an 8 x 8-inch pan.

1. Put the bread pieces into the pan. Melt 2 Tbsp. butter. Pour over the bread.

2. In a bowl, mix the remaining ingredients. Mix well with a whisk.
Pour over the bread. Let sit 20 minutes.

3. Bake 45 - 50 minutes or until it springs back when touched.
Serve warm or cold.
Good with warm Vanilla Sauce.

Serves 6.
